Bradley N.
Fitch
Brad
worked in higher education in a variety of positions
since he returned from Southeast Asia in 1970.
From 1991, until his retirement a few years ago, he
headed up the Office for Sponsored Projects and
Research Administration at the University of Detroit
Mercy.
One of the tasks of his office was to make the faculty
aware of funding opportunities in their areas of
interest. As the technology developed in regards
to the use of computers, the internet and the World
Wide Web, Brad learned to use it to better serve his
faculty. Brad first developed a web site for his
office in 1996, thereafter, a number of other offices
within his University asked him if he would volunteer
to assist them in developing a web presence for their
offices.
In 1996 the Mid-America Region of the National Council
of Research Administrators (NCURA) asked Brad if he
would serve as the web master for the region. In
this role Brad developed the NCURA Mid-America web
site and maintained it. In 1997 Brad assisted
Dola Haessig in conducting a workshop on web
development at the region's annual spring meeting.
Having enjoyed a very successful collaboration Brad
and Dola agreed to form BD Web Development.
Dola
has been involved with managing information for
research administration since 1984. As the technology
changed, so did distributing information to include
the web. Dola created the University of
Missouri-Columbia Office of Research web site as a
tool for managing and sharing information across a
large body of knowledge to a diverse audience. She
continued developing, editing and managing the Office
of Research web, which included several redesigns,
until April 1999 when she became the Research
Communication Project manager, a project of the
University of Missouri-Columbia's College of Arts and
Science.
At national and regional conferences she's taught
workshops and presented panels on developing web
sites, on using the web to manage information, and on
tools to implement electronic research administration.
Dola also has worked on the program-planning
committees for two national electronic research
administration conferences, both held in Atlanta.
In her day job, Dola develops web sites for all levels
of the College of Arts and Science: individual
faculty, research groups, departments, and
college-wide sites.
In addition, Brad and Dola are combining their talents
to create BD Web Development Inc., a partnership that
creates web sites for professional, service and
educational organizations.
Dola's other building experience comes in the physical
– not the virtual – world: the house that she and her
husband have been building and remodeling since 1978.
Dola cut every rafter for the original house (there’ve
been two additions since), plus she's the electrician.
